Tour and itinerary provider Backroads announced 38 new itineraries for the upcoming year, greatly expanding its offerings with a focus on unique adventure travel and luxury accommodations. Both generational and South American travel are also heavily featured, with new South American tours featuring stops in Brazil, Chile’s volcanic district and Cuba.

“For almost 40 years now we’ve been taking guests on active travel adventures across the globe. Every year, our trip designers research the best locations, find the nicest hotels, plan immersive biking and hiking routes so that our guests can enjoy phenomenal trips in the more than 50 countries where Backroads travels. In 2018, we’ve done it again with an incredible lineup of new trip departures and new destinations to explore actively,” said Tom Hale, founder and president, Backroads.

In 2017, Backroads unveiled its first small ocean cruise itinerary in Iceland to rave reviews, inspiring similar departures in 2018. New Icelandic adventures focus on the Northern Lights and the Eastern fjords.

Other new European destinations include Italy’s Dolomites, the French Riviera, the Western Highlands, Slovenia and Croatia. Many of the European tours are walking and hiking itineraries, with one hut-to-hut hiking tour of Switzerland, France and Italy.

The active tours continue in destinations such as Namibia, Zimbabwe, Morocco, New Mexico and Maine.

New generational travel, suitable for families with young adults and teenagers, heads off to destinations such as New Zealand, Spain and Alaska’s Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.

Additional 2018 itineraries are expected to become available in the upcoming weeks.
