A new celebration of American counterculture recently opened in New York City’s East Village by way of MOXY East Village.
MOXY East Village is the latest property to debut under the Moxy umbrella. The hotel sits on East 11th Street, directly across from Webster Hall. It features 286 guestrooms in addition to plentiful co-working stations and technological amenities.
One of the hotel’s most distinctive features is its vertical design. The building acts as a vertical history lesson, with different floors showing touches of inspiration from different decades in the iconic neighborhood.
Tao Group Hospitality operates the hotel’s four new dining and drinking venues. Three of the venues, including a bar and café and a couple restaurants, are already open. The property’s rooftop bar will open this coming spring.
Moxy East Village fits into the broader Moxy scheme by making cultural integration among the surrounding neighborhoods a high priority. As a result, a large number of the programing in the hotel consists of local creators sharing their crafts with guests and locals staying at the property.
“Moxy East Village is multidimensional—a thrilling mashup that lets people honor the past, experience the present, and dream about the future. We’re embracing it all to create a true sense of magic,” said Mitchel Hochberg, president, Lightstone.
There are 46 Moxy properties in North America, Europe and Asia, and 106 properties in the pipeline.
In 1977, the New York Earth Room opened its doors to 250 cubic yards of earth in a room on Soho's Wooster Street. It's unbelievable this art installation still exists in a one-loft apartment filled with wall-to-wall dirt. And no, there's not much to see at this free exhibit except actual waist-high dirt. Regardless of the lack of visual stimulation in this space, the experience is surreal.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, small businesses create two-thirds of net new jobs and account for nearly 48 percent of the U.S. private sector workforce. And small- and medium-sized businesses outpace all other sectors as one of the fastest-growing in the United States. InterContinental® Hotels Group (IHG) goes above and beyond to create opportunities for this segment with its IHG® Business Edge program, voted Best Small- to Mid-Sized Business Program in Global Traveler’s 2019 GT Tested Reader Survey awards.
