Well here’s an interesting souvenir opportunity: Travelers passing through Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport can now purchase fake guns from AK-47 maker Kalashnikov. Apparently the ability to purchase a fake gun doesn’t worry airport officials, according to Reuters: “The model guns — automatic pistols and rifles — would very clearly be imitations and would pose no security problem,” an airport official told the news outlet. Vladimir Dmitriev, head of marketing, Kalashnikov, had this to say to Reuters: “Kalashnikov is one of the most popular brands that come to mind for most people in the world when they hear about Russia. So, we are pleased to provide the opportunity for everyone to take away from Russia a souvenir with our company brand.” If you don’t want to tote a fake gun through airport security, Kalashnikov will also sell pens, umbrellas, bags, hats, camouflage gear and “I love AK” T-shirts. And apparently the guns — automatic pistols and rifles — are designed to be obvious imitations and will hopefully pose no security problems. Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport is Russia’s largest airport by passenger traffic, seeing more than 31 million passengers last year.
