Spring is finally here and, last month, Cottonwood Camp, in Fort Smith, Montana, kicked off the official 2023 spring fly-fishing season. Fly fishing is currently experiencing a boom, with a new generation of fly-fishing fans turning toward the soulful history of the sport.

According to FlyFisherPro.com, the total market value of the commercial fish industry is around $5.6 billion, with more opportunities for fishing vessels, aquaculture fish stocks and fish production around the world. The recreational fishing industry is growing too, as participation in fly fishing in the United States increased significantly over the past several years, surpassing 7 million anglers and growing. Statistics show women are beginning to love the sport almost as much as men, with females now accounting for 36 percent of U.S. fly-fishing participants.

Montana’s Cottonwood Camp, part of the JET Hospitality family of properties, is a pioneer in the alternative lodging segment, with a mission to connect guests with the great outdoors.  Nestled along the banks of the Bighorn River and known for excellent trout fishing, the 18-acre Cottonwood Camp is an ideal location for fly fishing. Acclaimed as one of the premier rivers for the sport, Bighorn River is a tailwater-fed river which never freezes. In addition, the river recently experienced a restoration in trout flow, resulting in less restrictions. Current projections for Bighorn River’s 2023 season indicate approximately 1,000–2,000 fish per mile. This includes 10- to 12-inch fish, as well as an additional class of 8-inch fish.

Complete with custom cabins with full kitchens, the location also offers full hookup, RV-ready sites and recently added glamping tents. Cottonwood Camp embodies a unique Western character and charm, with a history dating back to the construction of the Yellowtail Dam. The property is adjacent to the 300-acre Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area.

Cottonwood Camp offers boat rentals, fly-fishing lessons, guided tours and a friendly vibe. For adults and families looking for an old-fashioned, Western vacation with cook-outs, games and Bighorn River fun, this is the place. RVs, tents and cabins may require two-night minimums, depending on the date.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
