Through June 11, London’s Tate Modern presents “Wolfgang Tillmans 2017,” showcasing the artist’s work in a variety of media including photography, video, digital slide projections, publications, curatorial projects and recorded music. Tillmans first captured the attention of the public in the 1990s for photographs that explored everyday life and common experiences. His work continues to illustrate how the events of the world are communicated through media, often expressed by the artist through abstraction.
The exhibition includes Sendeschluss / End of Broadcast I 2014, which grew from images of an analogue television losing its signal; and Blushes 2000, created by manipulating the effects of light on photographic paper without the use of a camera. Other exhibits include landscapes, portraiture and still life studies. Among these are La Palma 2014, a large-scale seascape; and works from Tillmans’ series Neue Welt 2009–20112. The exhibition can be found on Level 3 of the museum in the Boiler House & Tanks Studio.
