Meliá Hotels International will grow its presence in the Caribbean market with new properties in Jamaica and the Bahamas. The hotel company signed a contract to operate the flagship resort currently known as Braco Village Hotel & Spa on Jamaica’s north coast. The property offers 226 guestrooms, five restaurants, a spa and several pools and will undergo a comprehensive makeover before it opens as Meliá Jamaica in November 2014. The company will also operate an all-inclusive resort at Baha Mar, a new $3.5 billion resort development that will open in the Bahamas in December 2014. Meliá at Baha Mar will be the first upscale all-inclusive resort in Baha Mar, which will also include four additional hotels, more than a half mile of white-sand beaches, a championship Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, a 100,000-square-foot casino and more than 30 shopping, dining and nightlife venues. Spain’s leading hotel chain, Meliá Hotels International operates more than 350 hotels in 35 countries on four continents under its brands Gran Meliá, Meliá, ME, Innside, Tryp by Wyndham, Sol and Paradisus.
