Medjet conducted a recent poll and found the majority of its members are less concerned about COVID-19 than other health and safety risks while traveling. Risks travelers were traditionally worried about — strokes, heart problems, accidents, falls and crime — beat out COVID concerns 75 percent to 25 percent.

The majority of Medjet’s members are ready to resume travel. Other key findings include 90.7 percent feel safer traveling domestically and internationally once vaccinated, with 89.8 percent planning to travel this summer — 72.4 percent planning domestic travel, 21 percent planning both and 6.4 percent planning international travel only.

“It shows that more than we think is back to normal,” said Mike Hallman, CEO, Medjet. “Travelers are back to thinking about all the other things that can happen to them on a trip.”

The poll was conducted May 11–17, and included almost 1,200 Medjet members in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The study additionally found, of those traveling, 57.2 percent intend to fly, with 38.2 percent traveling by car or RV. Medjet has seen a sharp uptick in member renewals and new consumer membership sales, while the Caribbean and Mexico remain popular destinations. U.S. national parks have seen record-breaking reservations.

Medjet has also seen a steady increase in members upgrading to or purchasing MedjetHorizon, its air medical transport and travel security membership, as crime has resulted in elevated U.S. Department of State Travel Alerts for many destinations. MedjetHorizon is back to about 79 percent of 2019 sales.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
