Destinations / North America

Maui is the second-largest Hawai’ian island, affording visitors all the lush and tropical paradise one expects from Hawai’i paired with a lower tourist population among smaller, inland towns scattered with locally owned shops, restaurants and accommodations. The Valley Island offers spectacular whale-watching, breathtaking scenery and a variety of activities to keep you occupied, whether you’re visiting purely for leisure or just getting glimpses of the Hawai’ian islands between business meetings.

GETTING THERE
Kahului Airport is the island’s primary airport. You can travel from or to the airport by taxi, airport shuttle, public transportation or car rental. Maui Bus routes run to and from the airport daily, every 90 minutes from 6:45 a.m. until 10:15 p.m. Bus fare is only $1, but luggage space is limited. The airport’s shuttle service will take you to various hotels and resorts around Maui and even load up your golf bag, bicycle or surfboard for an extra charge. Rates start around $6 and can go upwards of $70, depending on the location of your accommodations and the number of people in your party.

GETTING AROUND
Choose among multiple ways to get around the island during your stay: Shuttles, taxis, trolleys and city buses are all convenient. Roberts Hawaii and the Maui Public Bus service operate 13 bus routes every day, including holidays. You can get a daily bus pass for only $4. There is also a daily ferry service if you feel inclined to explore nearby Lanai or Molokai, with several departures throughout the day from 6:45 a.m. until 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $30 each way.

9–5
Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante
While you may not immediately think of Italian cuisine for your next lunch with colleagues in Hawai’i, Maui at Wailea, a Four Seasons Resort, presents Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante as an award-winning, open-air dining option. The normal lunch menu is served 11:30 a.m.–4 p.m., with a lighter lunch menu following until 5:30 p.m. The menu features fresh produce, seafood and options that are kind to both your palate and your waistline.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center
If you find yourself planning a meeting or conference on the island of Maui and choose to opt out of booking a run-of-the-mill hotel or resort meeting space, consider the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. The beautiful and spacious venue offers several meeting spaces that can hold up to 100, a large hall overlooking the water, and several studios available for rehearsals and classes.

Merriman’s Kapalua
Merriman’s has four locations in the Hawai’ian islands, including one in Maui. The fine-dining restaurant features farm-to-table cuisine, almost entirely locally sourced using sustainable farming methods. While the Maui Merriman’s is closed for lunch hours, it makes an excellent spot for an after-hours business dinner. With regional cuisine, plenty of local seafood and lots of gluten-free options, there’s something to tempt every diner.

AFTER 5
Iao Valley State Park
The Iao Valley State Park gates stay open until 7 p.m., giving visiting business travelers a few leisurely hours after the workday to explore the area. The park is home to the Iao Needle, one of Maui’s beloved natural landmarks, as well as the site of the late-18th-century Battle of Kepaniwai. Entrance to the park on foot is only $1, and entrance via car is $5.

Maui Tropical Plantation
For a fun and unusual dining experience, give Mill House Dining at Maui Tropical Plantation a try. Newly opened and featuring regular live music and culinary events, the Mill House is located on a working plantation featuring some of Hawai’i’s most profitable crops such as coconuts, pineapple and macadamia nuts. You’ll also find plenty to shop for at the plantation, with several stores selling locally crafted gifts, art and more.

Old Lahaina Lu’au
For a traditional luau with an amazing Hawai’ian feast, traditional music and hula, look no further than Old Lahaina Lu’au. In business since 1986, the venue is so popular it is almost always at full capacity year-round, and advance reservations are strictly required. The award-winning Maui nightlife experience will leave you with an enchanting taste of Hawai’ian culture, cuisine and history.
