First launched in spring 2021, Masseria Calderisi, one of Puglia’s latest farmhouse retreats, recently reopened its doors. Situated amongst eight hectares of secluded citrus and olive groves, Masseria Calderisi offers guests a laid-back and authentic Italian escape. Located just a stone’s throw from the Adriatic Sea, the farmhouse retreat embraces the Puglian countryside in every aspect.

Arranged around an expansive central piazza, the renovated 17^th-century masseria features 24 rooms and suites, all with their own private terrace or garden. Once the original stable block, five contemporary suites, each lined by private patios and olive trees, now grace the structure. The Il Fortino suite sits next to a walled garden and pool, while the Tower suite boasts access to a private rooftop terrace with views of the Adriatic in the distance.

Interiors blend whitewashed walls with local ceramics, handmade furniture and white linens for a fresh ambiance. Masseria Calderisi draws on Puglia’s strong agricultural heritage through its dining. La Corte serves breakfast and dinner, utilizing organic produce grown in the hotel’s gardens and groves. Mozzarella and organic beef hail from nearby farms, while fish and seafood come directly from local fishermen.

In addition to locally sourced ingredients, Chef Pietro Sgaramella bakes his own cakes, bread and focaccia in the property’s centuries-old stone oven. The oven also allows him to make freshly fired pizza. Guests can pair dinner with aperitivi or solely enjoy drinks on the Apero terrace, adorned with decorative lanterns and cushioned corners.

Masseria Calderisi also features an intimate spa, offering full-body massages, facials and Ayurvedic treatments. Treatments incorporate exfoliating scrubs, organic products and local olive oil and herbs from the garden.

The property encourages guests to immerse themselves in Puglia’s culture by offering different classes and experiences. Sgaramella hosts pizza-, parmigiana- and pasta-making classes, followed by an al fresco lunch. Masseria Calderisi also invites guests to take part in its private wine and olive oil tasting or embark on a private gastronomic cycle tour led by an expert guide. The property can also arrange private boat trips during peak season, in which up to 10 guests can cruise along the cliffs and towns of the coast, accompanied by aperitivi.
