Companies like Airbnb, HomeAway and Booking.com have tapped into the homesharing market for quite some time as independent platforms. Now, hotel brands join the mix.
Marriott International launches its official homesharing service in a six-month pilot partnership with London-based service Hostmaker.
Travelers will be able to book a stay in more than 200 homes in London, chosen specifically by Marriott and Hostmaker. The homes adhere to Marriott’s standards for safety, design, security and service. Guests also receive additional services, such as 24/7 phone support and an in-person check-in and welcome.
The service is similar to Airbnb Plus, which provides a selection of curated and verified homes inspected for quality. Marriott will have a more thorough process of inspection to ensure quality and maintenance.
Will hotel brands be able to take down the homesharing companies that took away their business by providing a better quality service? It remains to be seen.
