After 16 years, Lufthansa re-launches long-haul flights between Berlin (TXL) and New York (JFK).
The route is available five times weekly, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, on an Airbus A330-300.
“The Lufthansa Group finds the addition of the JFK–Berlin route to be an important pillar of German-American relations. It continues to display the Group’s strong commitment to servicing the United States of America,” said Tamur Goudarzi Pour, vice president, airline sales for the Americas, Lufthansa Group. “Furthermore, passengers traveling on these newly-introduced flights will be able to experience the quality service and products that Lufthansa Group is proud to offer.”
Next year, the route changes hands, from Lufthansa to Eurowings, the group’s point-to-point, budget leisure carrier, currently expanding its offerings.
The news comes as the number of U.S. visitors to Berlin continues to rise, with a 9.9 percent increase in visitors this year.
“We very much welcome Lufthansa’s commitment,” said Burkhard Kieker, CEO, visitBerlin. “The new non-stop connection ensures that Berlin is very well connected with our most important intercontinental market.”
Flights depart New York at 11:20 p.m., arriving in Berlin at 12:14 p.m. the next day, for a flight time of about 7.5 hours.
