Lovely Lodging at San Francisco’s Hotel Nikko

It’s the summer of love in San Francisco, and you’ll happily give your heart to the freshly renovated Hotel Nikko, beautifully revitalized and located on the rim of Union Square. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the elegant, Asian-inspired property has 532 rooms and suites. The recent $60 million update was the work of Hirsch Bedner Associates, who added rich textures, soothing shades of sea blue and bathrooms that act as their own urban oasis. You can even bring your best furry friend, as the hotel’s fifth floor features an outdoor dog run space. The environment was not overlooked, either — the hotel, a 10-time EPA Energy Star Award winner, incorporates water conservation, recycling and composting into its everyday operating practices. Modern, serene meeting and event space includes 20 venues with an enormous ballroom. A Starbucks is located just off the lobby level, and the 140-seat Feinstein’s nightclub is a partnership between the hotel and performer Michael Feinstein, nominated for multiple Emmy and Grammy awards.

Hotel Nikko

There’s a glass-enclosed indoor pool with decks reminiscent of a luxury cruise liner, along with beautiful health club facilities that have mahogany-fitted changing rooms, plus dry saunas and steam rooms for men and women. Access to this space is included for suites and Imperial Floor rooms, which also boasts afternoon wine and hors d’oeuvers in the clubroom, along with daily breakfast in ANZU (for guests on Imperial Floors). Along with hot menu selections, a vast and lovely buffet includes an impressive selection of Western and Eastern dishes.

Dining, in fact, is one of the highlights of a stay at Hotel Nikko. Utilizing the best and freshest California ingredients and seafood available, the delightfully Asian-inspired gourmet menu is the creation of, Chef Philippe Striffeler and Executive Sous Chef Thuy Tran. Tuck into sashimi and nigiri from the Sushi and Raw Bar, or look for specialty rolls such as the Tango Roll with snapper, salmon, pickled lemon, jalapeno wasabi caviar and yuzu drizzle; or mains such as Pan Seared 38 North Duck, Snake River Farms American Style Kobe Burger or Misoyaki Black Cod. Feeling adventurous? Prepare your own main dish tableside with The Rock. This dish consists of paper-thin slices of Wagyu beef coulotte that you cook beside your plate on a sizzling hot Japanese river stone. It’s served with a trio of dipping sauces — spicy Korean, Kizami carrot sauce and cilantro purée. There’s a cable car line a block away, along with premier shopping and entertainment just steps from the hotel. While you’re wandering the city, keep your eyes open for the ANZU food truck at popular area locations. Walking, after all, is hungry work.

Escape to Lewes, a Chill Beach Town Where Local Cocktails and Craft Beer Flow Freely

Sandwiched between the Jersey Shore and the tiny state’s on-the-beaten-path beach destinations like Rehoboth, Bethany and Dewey, Lewes is easy to miss. But it’s definitely worth more than a drive by for its calm beaches, oceanfront state park, World War II history ... and liquid culture.

Hyatt Centric Las Olas Review

Today’s Fort Lauderdale is not the one you or your older relatives experienced in college; while beachfront surf shops along Fort Lauderdale Boulevard recall that colorful Spring Break era, Las Olas Boulevard embodies the city’s recent glow-up, particularly after the pandemic. In fact, it was spring 2020 when Hyatt Centric Las Olas opened its doors and played a major role in reshaping and rethinking Fort Lauderdale as a relaxed but lively vacation or business destination.
