A long-awaited rail link between downtown Taipei and Taoyuan International Airport is finally open more than a decade after construction started.
The new Airport MRT runs from Taipei Main Station to Zhongli Station in the Taoyuan District, with 24 stops including four at the airport at Terminals 1, 2, 3 and the airport hotel.
China Airlines and EVA Air passengers at Taoyuan Airport will be able to check in at the station in downtown Taipei and have baggage transported directly to the airport. The ride from Taipei Main Station to the airport is around 35 minutes.
Construction began on the project in 2006, derailed several times by budget restrictions and other setbacks.
The rail will operate daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and tickets will be offered at 50 per cent discount in the first month of operations, before moving to the full price April 2.
