Have no fear: The Seadust Cancún Family Resort’s drone is here. The family-friendly vacation destination announced its newest staff member, a lifeguard drone. In an effort to further enhance the safety features of the property, the new drone provides emergency floating services to swimmers in need. The Seadust Cancún Family Resort is now the first property in the vacation region to utilize a lifeguard drone.
Created by U SAFE and NORAS Performance, the drone is actually a remote-controlled, lightweight floatation device that can maneuver through water at a speed of 18 mph. The device can also be controlled from three miles away, perfect for swimmers struggling in the ocean and needing assistance from land.
Vacations at Seadust Cancún will see the lifeguard drone on the property by August, after current lifeguards are trained to handle the device.
Although the first drone of its kind in Cancun, another lifeguard drone achieved the world’s first ocean rescue in January. According to CBS News, a lifeguard drone in Australia assisted in the rescue of two swimmers stranded off the coast of Lennox Head.
