LGBTQ+ travelers heading to the West Coast will be hard pressed to find a more welcoming and robust city than Seattle, Washington.

Located on the Puget Sound, Seattle has long been a tourist destination for all kinds of travelers. Attractions like the space needle, pop culture museum, Pike Place Market and more means there is something for everyone in this city in the Pacific Northwest. Gleaming, besides the traditional Seattle attractions, is a robust gay community and culture.

The epicenter of Seattle’s gay community is the Capital Hill neighborhood. Located just east of downtown Seattle, Capital Hill is reason enough for travelers to visit. The neighborhood boasts rainbow-painted crosswalks along LGBTQ+-friendly and -owned establishments.

“It’s pretty clear that in Seattle, we take pride in everybody,” Seattle’s tourism website exclaims.

More specifically, Seattle has bustling nightlife for LGBTQ+ visitors.

Unicorn, a carnival-themed bar in Capital Hill hosting different nightly events, has a number of food and drink options, as well as rotating entertainment selections.

R Place is a multilevel entertainment center that offers bars, dancing, pool and special events like karaoke. Many other bars join Unicorn and R Place throughout the town to make sure any visitor to the city will have a great time.

Every June, the city plays host to two different pride festivals: Seattle Pridefest takes place over Pride Weekend in June at the Seattle Center, while the Seattle Pride Park Festival kicks off on the Saturday of Pride Weekend, leading into the city’s Pride Parade on Sunday morning.

Seattle’s local alternative newspaper, The Stranger, also presents a Pride Guide every year, so visitors can make the most out of Pride Month and Weekend.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
