Leading Hotels of the World admits eight new hotels into its collection of only the poshest properties around the globe.
Le Mount Stephen in Montréal, opened in May, is partially contained within the historic George Stephen House, the mansion built by the first president of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Beyond is a tower containing 90 guestrooms and suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows and the utmost in amenities.
The Bürgenstock Hotel opens tomorrow, Aug. 28, touting beautiful views of Lake Lucerne and the Swiss Alps. The hotel is part of the overall resort by the same name, host to famous faces since 1873, such as Audrey Hepburn and Charlie Chaplin. The grounds include a huge spa, 12 restaurants and a golf course, with additional entertainment within easy access.
In Greece, the Lesante Blu Exclusive Beach Resort also opened in May, with 65 guestrooms, each with its own sea view. The adults-only property offers private pools, fine dining and even helicopter transfer for those looking to island hop around the country.
Nearby, in Venice, the Palazzo Vejart Luxury Hotel re-opened last year, after 50 years of closure. Located on the Grand Canal, it includes an intimate 18 guestrooms and suites, all filled with restored features and true Venetian culture.
The Gran Meliá de Mar in Spain is an adults-only resort, the only in Mallorca. All guestrooms and suites feature a balcony and views of the Mediterranean. There are four dining venues and a luxury spa.
On St. Isaac’s Square, Lotte Hotel St. Petersburg boasts a prime location and a unique history with part of the building occupying a mansion once home to the sixth President of the United States, John Quincy Adams. There are 150 guestrooms, ranging from modern to classic in design, and seven suites.
Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li opens next month, with an original layout made up of 22 rows of 200 two-story houses from the 1930s, and 55 three-level villas. The original shikumen homes blend histories, cultures and architectural styles. Additionally, the hotel is slated for the only restaurant in Mainland China by three-Michelin star chef Pierre Gagnaire.
Lastly, the Signiel Seoul opened in Gangam in the spring, within the Lotte World Tower, the fifth-tallest high rise in the world. All guestrooms feature skyline views, and guests enjoy access to restaurants from Michelin-starred chefs and the largest Champagne collection in the country.
