On the shores of glittering Lake Geneva, beneath snowy alpine peaks in Vevey, Switzerland, the Grand Hotel Du Lac celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. The Relais & Chateaux 5-star accommodations extend to 50 elegant, spacious guestrooms and suites, and the Michelin-starred Les Saisons restaurant — the creative domain of executive chef Thomas Neeser. Additional dining spaces include La Veranda, a bar and a sumptuous lounge with seasonal dining available at the outdoor pool during warm months. In the Oriental Lounge, replete with Chinese tapestries and a fireplace straight out of a storybook, guests indulge in a cup of Moroccan mint tea, sample tobacco-free shisha and relax over traditional afternoon tea service.

A member of the Swiss Deluxe Hotels collection, the property first opened in 1868. The romantic spaces were the setting for the novel Hotel du Lac by Anita Brookner (Vintage, 1995), and reopened in 2007 following a renovation directed by French interior architect Pierre-Yves Rochon. Guests can spoil themselves with indulgent treatments and therapies at the hotel’s Dr. Burgener Switzerland Care & Spa, with choices including the Hydrating Swiss Milk wrap and the Swiss Cocoa wrap, along with the Volcanic Glacial massage. The spa is also fitted with a sauna and Turkish bath.

The Island of the Knights

Welcome to Rhodes, a medieval treasure beautifully preserved throughout the centuries. Rhodes is the capital of the Dodecanese, an island ideal not only for those who want to relax, but also for those looking for an action-packed holiday! With its bright green hills, rich green valleys and uninterrupted line of golden beaches, Rhodes is truly a blessed place. “The sun island” has more sunshiny days and milder temperatures throughout the year than any other location in Greece. It is, after all, one of the country’s easternmost places and among the first to welcome summer on its impressive beaches. Add in the excellent facilities for tourism, the island’s special blend of cosmopolitan and traditional, and numerous cultural and archaeological sites, the most important being the Medieval (Old) Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and you’ve got the perfect holiday destination. While on Rhodes, don’t miss a daytrip to nearby Sými. An island of sponge divers and seamen, Sými used to have 30,000 inhabitants before the Second World War and was the richest island in the Dodecanese, despite its small size. Today, Sými attracts many visitors thanks to its beautifully preserved Neo-Classical buildings and the famous Archangel Michael monastery at Panormitis.
