JetBlue Unveils Premium Cabin Details

PREMIUM CABIN: Debuting in spring 2014 on select routes, JetBlue’s new premium cabin will feature 16 lie-flat seats, including four private suites.

JetBlue Airways unveiled details of the premium cabin it plans to introduce on select transcontinental routes next year, including information about its new, fully customized lie-flat seats.

The carrier plans to debut the new lie-flat seats on its Airbus A321 aircraft beginning in the second quarter of 2014 on its service between New York (JFK) and both Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO).

Eleven of the new Airbus A321 planes entering the airline’s fleet this fall will include the new premium cabin, featuring 16 seats. Twelve of the 16 seats will be arranged in a 2-2 configuration. The other four will be private suites, with one seat on each side of the aisle and sliding privacy doors.

All seats will feature air cushions with adjustable firmness, a massage function, a 15-inch widescreen television and a “wake-me-for-service” indicator that will allow passengers to choose whether they want to sleep through a service or be awakened. Passengers in premium seats will also receive hot meals, complimentary alcoholic drinks and toiletries included in the ticket price, which the airline has not yet revealed.

“Our customers have requested more premium options on our transcontinental flights and we listened,” said Dave Barger, CEO of JetBlue. “We decided to enter the premium transcontinental market in a way that only JetBlue can: with an intense focus on offering the best possible product for the best possible price.”

JetBlue currently serves 79 cities with 850 daily flights and plans to launch service later this year to Worcester, Mass. (ORH); Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP); and Lima, Peru (LIM).

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
