The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo launches its “Let’s Talk Art!” program this spring. The program allows English speakers to further examine 20th-century Japanese art. A facilitator provides explanations of artwork within the museum’s MOMAT Collection and encourages conversation among locals and visitors. Each experience follows the interests of that session’s participants.
The museum, the first national art museum near the Imperial Palace, hopes the program attracts new foreign visitors and sparks conversations among people with diverse cultures and values. The MOMAT Collection includes about 200 works among the museum’s more than 13,000 pieces.
Beyond the new “Let’s Talk Art!” program, the museum also offers English app guides, audio guides and signage.
Each “Let’s Talk Art!” session welcomes up to six participants, ages 11 and up. The program is only offered Friday evenings.

At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
