Old Towne Arvada, just outside of Denver, Colorado, hosts Rocky Mountain Archtop Festival, Sept. 9–11. The event includes an exhibit of the Smithsonian’s legendary Blue Guitar Collection.

“For one weekend in September, Olde Town Arvada will become the center of the archtop guitar universe,” said Peter Henriksen, festival organizer. “This unique music festival is the only one of its kind and features more than 30 of the world’s premier guitar builders showcasing their work, along with world class players, teachers and clinicians offering workshops and concerts. Over 60 hours of music and more than 30 different workshops and clinics will be hosted by various local businesses in Olde Town Arvada, all within walking distance, creating the most unique guitar-focused music festival in the world.”

Beloved by jazz guitarists and musicians performing in country, folk and Western swing, the archtop has also been adopted by a growing number of progressive rock guitarists. Dive into the archtop universe by viewing Blue Guitar Collection, which owes its existence to guitar collector Scott Chinery, who commissioned blue archtop guitars from 22 of the world’s most respected luthiers. Many of those luthiers will be present at the festival to discuss the historic collection.

A premier screening of the film The Chisels are Calling will be shown at Harkins Arvada movie theater. The feature-length documentary includes legendary guitar builder John Monteleone and renowned guitarists like David Grisman, Ben Harper and Mark Knopfler.

Leading up to the festival, Frank Vignola’s Big Jersey Guitar Camp will offer a four-day guitar intensive course with master classes, ensemble jams and Q&A sessions with professional players. All levels are welcome.
