This spring, new luxury accommodations open in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The new Hotel Arras in Asheville, North Carolina, will provide a boutique luxury experience set in the historic, former BB&T Tower building — the city’s largest structure. A warm stone façade was added, while glass and steel elements make the most of the abundant natural sunlight gracing the location.

Within, 128 guestrooms and suites, two restaurants, 54 condominiums and 5,000 square feet of cutting-edge meeting facilities await. The vision of Asheville resident and hotelier John McKibbon and Tower Associates Chairman Glenn Wilcox, the building will offer guests a host of special touches that include handmade soaps, artisan-brewed coffee and large, spa-worthy bathrooms. Mobile check-in will be a feature, while amenities include a modern fitness center, yoga studio, massage room, valet parking and room service. Condos are fitted with floor-to-ceiling windows and stunning views of the city.
One of the highlights: the property’s carefully curated collection of local art, lending a truly local cultural angle. Dining celebrates local fare, with menus in each restaurant (one full-service venue for breakfast, lunch and dinner; and one serving small plates, fresh coffee and evening craft cocktails) under the creative direction of area culinary celebrities Peter and Martha Pollay of Posana and Mandara Hospitality Group.

Feb 26, 2025Review: Kimpton Hotel Palomar
ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: Philadelphia was filling up with travelers, so I booked Kimpton Hotel Palomar due to its location in the heart of Center City — just off Samson Street, full of great restaurants, and a few blocks from The Union League (where I was attending an event) and City Hall. I parked around the corner; there are many options, and the hotel is also close to public transportation. I admired the lobby renovations that took place not too long ago, making this a hidden gem with a real Philadelphia feel. The doorman greeted me and held my bags, as I arrived in the morning for meetings before check- in. When I returned in the afternoon, check-in was swift with a friendly front desk team offering water and help with questions.
