Guam Offers Travelers Year-Round Fun

Jul 28, 2016

A popular destination year-round for water sports, dolphin viewing and banana boat rides, Guam has plenty of activity choices that don’t involve a beach. At Latte Stone Park, you can see the ancient stone pillars that once supported the homes of the native Chamorro peoples. Located in Hagåtña, the park is part of the Heritage Walking Trail with a series of well-marked cultural and historic sites along its length. Other notable historic locations include the Gef Pa’go Chamorro Cultural Village, where visitors can stroll among hut structures to peruse traditional weaving, salt making, coconut husking and rope making activities and chat with the crafters and artisans, many of whom are elders of the Chamorro people. Scenic locations connected to the island’s history include Fort Soledad in the south, a spot many credit to Magellan’s first landing in 1521; Taleyfak Bridge in Agat, also known as the Old Spanish Bridge, which marks a section of Guam’s old El Camino Trail; Fort Santa Agueda with gorgeous views of Northern Guam; the Plaza de España; and the Guam Museum in Hagåtña. Time your visit to include a Wednesday, and you can enjoy the Wednesday Night Market at the Y SengSong Chamorro Village in Hagåtña. Along with art, crafts, shopping and plenty of local food, there’s also live entertainment and music. Other pastimes that will keep you dry include a round on one of Guam’s seven golf courses, designed by top names including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus and including luxury clubhouses with dining and full golf amenities. The Island of the Knights

Welcome to Rhodes, a medieval treasure beautifully preserved throughout the centuries. Rhodes is the capital of the Dodecanese, an island ideal not only for those who want to relax, but also for those looking for an action-packed holiday! With its bright green hills, rich green valleys and uninterrupted line of golden beaches, Rhodes is truly a blessed place. “The sun island” has more sunshiny days and milder temperatures throughout the year than any other location in Greece. It is, after all, one of the country’s easternmost places and among the first to welcome summer on its impressive beaches. Add in the excellent facilities for tourism, the island’s special blend of cosmopolitan and traditional, and numerous cultural and archaeological sites, the most important being the Medieval (Old) Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and you’ve got the perfect holiday destination. While on Rhodes, don’t miss a daytrip to nearby Sými. An island of sponge divers and seamen, Sými used to have 30,000 inhabitants before the Second World War and was the richest island in the Dodecanese, despite its small size. Today, Sými attracts many visitors thanks to its beautifully preserved Neo-Classical buildings and the famous Archangel Michael monastery at Panormitis.
