Arrival/Check-in: My arrival at the Erawan was handled very professionally. Each time I arrived or departed, the pleasant front door staff, all in white, greeted me. Check-in was swift. I had a significant number of bags since I was traveling with materials and copies of Global Traveler. All were delivered without incident, and I was safely in my room, ready to hit the hay for the next morning’s meetings. (27/30)
Guest Quarters: My standard room opened into a small hallway with a door to the bathroom. The bath had both a tub and an enclosed shower — an added plus. The large room contained a king bed and a desk near the window. On the far wall were the TV, entertainment center and minibar. I was on the club floor with access to the Hyatt Grand Club, which offered cocktails in the evening and breakfast in the morning. (All the Grand Clubs are fantastic additions, but the best club by far is at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.) (24/30)
Services/Amenities: There are a vast number of eateries at the Hyatt Erawan. Tables offers continental cuisine; Spasso offers Italian; The Dining Room is a buffet-style restaurant; several other restaurants are perfect for a quick meal. The Erawan Tea Room, in the adjoining mall, serves traditional Thai food. The Erawan also has impressive meeting space, with the largest banquet rooms in Bangkok and innovative meeting areas, including the Residences and Campus. The Residence consists of five luxury event rooms. Some surround a loft kitchen where coffee breaks and meals are freshly prepared. Others feature their own gallery, living room and show kitchen, all in one room. These are luxurious, sophisticated meeting spaces. The Campus was created to serve as a new-age location for meetings, inspired by colleges and universities. Walking through the Campus, you might feel as though you are in a library in one room, then transported to a college bar in another — a great venue for an informal meeting. (39/40)
The Experience: You can’t beat the Grand Hyatt Erawan — named for the Erawan Shrine, which was originally built to ward off evil and attracts millions of visitors each year seeking good fortune. Visitors who stay at this hotel are indeed fortunate.

May 14, 2025Hotel Van Zandt Review
One step onto Austin’s Rainey Street and you’ll feel like you’ve joined the cool kids at the best playground in the city. Just behind the cottage bars, pint-sized skyscrapers soar. One of them, Hotel Van Zandt, the Rainey district's pièce de resistance, beckons with a song-like spirit —apropos because the independently owned property, rife with music motifs, was named after beloved singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. Sixteen stories high, the hotel embodies Austin’s lust for music, manifesting with a vinyl corner; trumpet chandeliers; myriad musical references; replica vintage posters in frames; and its own live music venue, which doubles as its acclaimed restaurant, Geraldine’s. Don’t miss the mesmerizing installation of colorful origami-like birds composed from vinyl records that flitter from an old phonograph.
