According to a GO Airport Express survey, about 21 percent of travelers believe airlines can and should ask passengers to change their attire prior to boarding. The survey follows an incident on Southwest Airlines, when a passenger was not allowed to board due to her apparel. In comparison, 31 percent of respondents felt travelers should dress any way they choose, and 21 percent reported no opinion. Of those polled, more men than women felt airlines should enforce dress codes. Some noted airlines should clearly state their dress codes if they intend to enforce them; others said dress codes should only apply when attire is unsafe or unsuitable for children. “These results indicate travelers care most about getting to where they are going and are not paying attention, or caring, what others are wearing at the airport or on a plane. However, if travelers have concerns they should check the individual airline’s policy regarding attire,” said John McCarthy, president, GO Airport Express.
