THE PROCESS
Global Traveler conducted a survey of its readers Sept. 20, 2024–Jan. 30, 2025, with open-ended questions for the best in many categories of leisure, luxury and lifestyle travel. This survey ran in the magazine, as an insert to subscriber copies, as a direct mail questionnaire, online at globaltravelerusa.com/leisureballot and emailed during the survey period. Only those questionnaires with a completion rate of more than 50 percent were counted. Those with a completion rate of less than 50 percent were discarded. Employees of the magazine or individuals associated with the travel industry were not allowed to participate.
SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
Each year, in addition to our Leisure Lifestyle Awards, Global Traveler acknowledges those travel companies going above and beyond. Our Special Achievement Awards recognize leaders in innovation, environmental initiatives and community outreach. Congratulations to this year’s honorees!
Scenic Group’s Cherish the Planet campaign goes far beyond basic sustainability, instead offering a true commitment toward positive change through sustainable practices and community engagement. The philosophy aims to leave a smaller environment footprint and foster meaningful relationships with the people and places visited. Key focus areas include leaving no wasteprint, rebalancing CO2 emissions, sourcing sustainably, growing with communities and growing from within. For this and many other reasons, Scenic Group earns this year’s Outstanding Social Responsibility honor.
Another cruise line comes out on top, this time for Outstanding Customized Services. Explora Journeys, though newer to the cruising scene, is already making a big difference. Its ships are designed to feel like private yachts and its cabins like homes at sea, with floor-to-ceiling windows, walk-in wardrobes, private terraces and more. Guests can choose to extend stays in select destinations for additional nights, just one of the ways they can customize their voyage to their liking … making Explora Journeys an obvious choice for this accolade.

PHOTO:© MAXXROYALRESORTS
Maxx Royal Resorts aims to integrate sustainability into every aspect of development, from energy-efficient technologies to water conservation systems. Newly opened Maxx Royal Bodrum Resort will shape an experience that allows both sustainability and hospitality to flourish. During construction, the brand implemented measures to protect local wildlife and designed the resort to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings and align with LEED Gold standards. It’s no wonder the hotel brand received this year’s Outstanding Environmental Initiatives award.
United Airlines, never one to rest on its laurels, takes this year’s Outstanding Innovations Special Achievement Award. There are many reasons United is tops for innovation, among them its purchase, usage and plans for sustainable aviation fuel, marking an innovative approach to reaching its goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050; its in-flight training center, currently under construction in Virginia; and its plans for its largest international expansion ever this year.
CRUISE LINE OF THE YEAR
Global Traveler is pleased to name its Cruise Line of the Year. Congratulations to Regent Seven Seas Cruises!
Nominees for this honor were compiled by Global Traveler, with the final winner selected by our Globility Board, a vetted group of well-traveled magazine subscribers.
