Anantara Hotels Resorts & Spas is celebrating the birth of two baby giraffe calves, a boy and girl, on the treasured Sir Bani Yas Island off the coast of Abu Dhabi.

Originally developed as a wildlife reserve to ensure the survival of Arabia’s endangered species, Sir Bani Yas Island is home to the Arabian Wildlife Park, a safe residence for more than 13,000 animals, including the two baby giraffes. The boy and girl are both part of the Reticulated Giraffe (Giraffa Camelopardalis Reticulata) family, the tallest mammal in the world, growing up to 18 feet in height. Among the most well known of the nine giraffe subspecies, its coat features large, polygonal spots outlined by a network of bright-white lines. Each spot features a unique pattern in the same way a fingerprint does to a human being.

Anantara invites guests visiting one of the three luxury resorts on Sir Bani Yas Island to get a glimpse of the new giraffe calves in their natural environment with its special Nature Walk, starting from $40 per person, or the Wildlife Drive, from $68 per person.

Rates begin at $300 per person for a stay at the family-friendly Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara or $435 for a stay in a one-bedroom villa at the romantic beachside Anantara Al Yamm Villa Resort.

At about 5-feet-tall, the baby giraffes are already standing, walking and exploring the park’s vegetation with the rest of the resort’s reticulated giraffes, now numbering 37 on the island.
