England’s historic spa town of Bath is a constant draw for visitors for both its beauty and history — it’s the only town in Britain that’s listed in entirety as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s also the location of Britain’s only thermal springs, which issue from an ancient and still undetermined source. Now there’s a new reason to visit: the magnificent Gainsborough Bath Spa Hotel in the city’s center, where the same hot, mineral-rich waters that flow into the city’s ancient Roman bathing temple complex also feed the hotel’s very own Spa Village. Already the recipient of numerous awards, the grand hotel — part of the YTL Hotels portfolio and a member of Leading Hotels of the World —inhabits two listed buildings with gorgeous Georgian and Victorian façades. The interior design in each of the 99 rooms and suites was the inspired work of New York-based Champalimaud Design, honoring period details with beautiful contemporary features. Among the standard amenities are complimentary WiFi and mini bar, Asprey body care products, 24-hour room service, tea and Nespresso stations, powered safes, flat-screen televisions with Sky Sports, large wardrobes, radiant heated bathroom floors and luxurious linens. Guests enjoy complimentary access to Spa Village’s collection of pools of varying temperatures, and sauna and steam baths from 7–9 a.m. and 8–10 p.m. each day, but make sure to allocate enough time to enjoy one of the indulgent treatments from the extensive, full-service menu. Massages include Swedish, Thai, Japanese, hot stone and aromatherapy, plus scrubs, wraps, facials and Traditional Spa Village Classics such as the two-hour Malaysian Experience, Malay Massage and Campur-Campur massage with a blend of Mala and Thai techniques. Begin your wellness journey at the Aroma Bar, where your therapist will create a custom-scented salt-infusion blend from the spa’s collection of essential oils, which you’ll carry with you into your steam and sauna sessions.
