Through Jan. 24, 2016, the Städel Museum in Frankfurt, Germany, presents Masterworks in Dialogue, a clever juxtaposition of famous works including Botticelli’s Simonetta gazing upon Fazio’s Mistress by Rossetti. As part of the museum’s 200th birthday, works from the Städel’s own collection have been joined by treasures from some of the world’s most renowned museums to create 40 separate combinations — positioned to both suggest a story and to inspire the imagination of the viewer.

Opening Feb. 24 and running through June 5, 2016, the new exhibition Maniera will showcase the giants of Florentine Mannerism in a large-scale show that includes works by artists Andrea del Sarto, Pontormo, Rosso, Bronzino and Vasari. A term created by art historian Giorgio Vasari, maniera refers to the singular burst of Florentine art and its artists, who managed to combine elegance and sophistication with extravagance and individual style. The exhibition will include more than 120 paintings, drawings and sculptures on loan from collections in London’s National Gallery, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Madrid’s Prado and both the Uffizi and the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence.
