By the year 2023, France plans to debut five new high-speed train lines. With increased governmental investments in transportation infrastructure, the routes are not necessarily new, but will be updated and outfitted with improved vehicles and faster service.

Among the five enhanced lines is a Bordeaux-to-Toulouse route that used to take upwards of four hours, but the new high-speed rail will bring the transit time down to three hours, bookended by renovated train stations in each town. The journey along the Côte d’Azur between Marseille and Nice will take approximately three hours, while elsewhere along the Mediterranean coast is a new route from Montpellier to Perpignan near the Spanish border.

Further north, travelers can transit from Paris to Le Havre, a port city in the western region of Normandy, faster than the current transit time of 2.5 hours, while travelers arriving at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport can hop on a high-speed train to reach the region of Picardy, including the towns of Chantilly, Clermont and Compiègne.
