Fall asleep beneath the stars and wild Northern Lights on a luxurious floating lodge off the coast of Tromsø in Norway, north of the Arctic Circle. The VOLDA floating lodge was originally built on a ferry in the 1960s. Today’s incarnation has been thoroughly refurbished to a luxury level that incorporates classic Scandinavian design. Generously proportioned spaces include seven bedrooms that sleep up to 14 guests. The open-plan living room and kitchen area is fitted with a 13.1-foot-long dining room table, while two open lounge areas are augmented with an additional private lounge located within the officer’s cabin.

Tromsø has plenty to explore, including the Polaria Arctic aquarium with its panoramic cinema and interactive animal exhibits featuring seals and other local residents. You won’t be able to miss the building, noteworthy for its singular design suggesting a series of glaciers collapsing onto one another. There’s also the Arctic Cathedral, a landmark structure famous for its triangular architecture and sleek Nordic design.
