The first evidence of Delta Air Lines’ full Boeing 777 fleet refurbishment took to the air earlier this week on a flight from Detroit (DTW) to Beijing (PEK). The fleet contains eight 777-200ER and 10 777-200LR aircraft. The total refurbishment is expected to be a multibillion-dollar investment, Delta Air Lines said.
Highlights of the refurbishment include 296 seats, with 28 seats in Delta One suites, 48 in the Delta Premium Select cabin and 220 in the main cabin.
In addition to the revamped seating and accommodations, seatback entertainment screens are available.
“The upgraded 777 design is part of Delta’s multibillion dollar investment in the overall customer experience,” Delta said in a press release.
In the past, Delta invested in the passenger experience by allowing for complimentary meals on certain coast-to-coast flights, free mobile messaging, complimentary snacks and free in-flight entertainment in the aircraft’s main cabin.
Delta Air Lines’ entire 777 fleet is expected to be refurbished by the end of 2019. For now, the completed 777-200ER will fly the Detroit–Beijing route on alternating days for the rest of July.
