Finnair finished expanding its non-Schengen lounges at Helsinki airport. Last year, the carrier opened a new Platinum Wing Lounge for non-Schengen customers, which it followed with revamping its business-class facility.

According to the airline, the new lounge “centers on Nordicness, simplicity, clean lines, natural materials and texture to provide a warmer and more ‘human’ experience.” The airline also said the revamped lounge is divided into “smaller ‘pockets’ aligned to different customer needs and activities,” adding “the deeper you go into the lounge, the quieter and more private it becomes.”

The lounge now boasts five refurbished shower suites, which can be booked via a touchscreen reservation system, as well as soundproof phone booths, power outlets “at almost every seated position,” and seating options ranging from solo seating to “social open banquet style.”

There’s also a full-service bar, and an open kitchen concept and dedicated dining area serving a rotating three-course menu with meat, fish and vegetarian options, as well as six salads.

The two lounges now have 200 more seats than the original facilities.

“Throughout the design process, we spent a lot of time to really understand how our customers use our lounges and what their needs are. This, in turn, informed the design of the spaces and services,” said David Kondo, head of customer experience product design, Finnair. “The result is a lounge that offers a variety of different zones and seating styles, providing our customers with different options on how they want to spend their time.”
