The Apollo 11 command module is the highlight of the new Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission traveling exhibit. The first stop is Space Center Houston in Texas, where it will be on display from Oct. 14 until March 18, 2018. Along with the moon module, which was part of the biggest human travel expedition in the history of the world, the exhibition will allow visitors a unique opportunity to see more than 20 artifacts from the flight, including many pieces that actually flew on the historic mission: the hatch, the F-1 injector plate, the lunar sample return container, a star chart, a survival kit and other items.

Also part of the exhibition are the extravehicular visor and gloves used by astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and the Omega Speedmaster Chronograph used by astronaut Michael Collins. The exhibition is organized in partnership with the National Air and Space Museum and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and timed to commemorate the 50th anniversary in 2019 of the landing and moonwalk. Space Center Houston is Houston’s first and only Smithsonian Affiliate and the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center.
