Seattle-based MIR Corporation has been specializing in tours of Russia for decades. Now you can travel with them in luxurious style during the new 12-day journey aboard the Arctic Explorer private train. Part of the Golden Eagle fleet of luxury trains, the Arctic Explorer will head north from St. Petersburg after a relaxing exploration of notable sites including St. Isaac’s Cathedral and Nevsky Prospekt. An onboard astronomer will reveal the secrets of the Northern Lights as you cross the Arctic Circle.
Stops include Norway’s polar town of Kirkenes with a dogsled tour and visit to the Snow Hotel, where the rooms glow blue in the night. Also along the way, there’s a tour of the The Lenin, the world’s first nuclear-powered icebreaker in the Russian port city of Murmansk; a hovercraft visit (weather permitting) to the UNESCO open-air museum on Kizhi Island; tours of the Golden Ring towns of Vladimir and Suzdal and their historic churches; and a stay in Moscow with plenty of time to visit Red Square and the Kremlin. Dates for the private train journeys are Dec. 29, 2015–Jan. 9, 2016. Prices begin at $11,995.
