Emirates announced it will start direct flights from Dubai (DXB) to Mexico City (MEX) at the end of this year. The daily flight will start Dec. 9, and be flown on a two-class Boeing 777-200LR configured with 38 business-class (2-2-2 configuration) and 264 economy-class seats (3-4-3 layout).
The flight will be direct, but not non-stop; it will operate through Barcelona (BCN). The decision to stop in Spain is related to Mexico City’s high altitude, which affects the range of aircraft after take-off. Airlines cannot fly from Mexico City non-stop to the Gulf, but they can fly Mexico City to Europe without stopping.
Emirates’ new flight will leave Dubai at 3:30 a.m. and arrive the same morning in Barcelona at 8 a.m. It will then depart at 9:55 a.m. to reach Mexico City the same day at 4:15 p.m. The return flight will leave Mexico City at 7:40 p.m., arriving in Barcelona the following day at 1:25 p.m. From there, it will head to Barcelona at 3:10 p.m., and reach Dubai at 12:45 a.m., the following day.
Emirates’ schedule allows for connections both to and from Dubai to other local airports as well as throughout India and Southeast Asia.
