Travelers that crave the perks of business class, but don’t want to fork over their life savings or points to experience it found solace in the premium-economy option — a fairly new class of seats that combines a few subtle elements of business class with the relative affordability economy passengers are accustomed to.
One of the more recent airlines to start offering premium-economy seats is Emirates. The Middle Eastern airline is the world’s largest long-haul carrier and known as one of the world’s most luxurious, with full showers available to premium-class passengers.
Called “sleeperettes,” Emirates’ premium-economy seats offer six inches of extra legroom compared with the airline’s economy seats, as well as a private bathroom, upgraded meal service and enhanced amenities, such as a larger TV screen for entertainment. The width of each seat will also expand while the number of seats per row will decrease, allowing for more elbow room among passengers.
Emirates’ premium-economy seats will start to appear on Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft in 2020.
