Experts in small ship cruising with serious experience in the Arctic, AdventureSmith Explorations has four new land-based tours of the Arctic available to travelers looking for a memorable experience that includes wildlife, sea kayaking, zodiac tours and colossal icebergs. The new trips are offered between late June and late November. During the Classic Polar Bear Adventure, Churchill, Manitoba, is base. By day, it’s tundra tours aboard an all-terrain Polar Rover to view polar bears, Arctic hares and foxes; by night, it’s excursions to chase the Northern Lights (six days, beginning at $6,395 per person based on double occupancy). The Tundra Lodge Adventure features adventure-style accommodations in a 29-room mobile hotel on the tip of Hudson Bay (think train-like upper and lower berths with shared bathrooms). Day tours are conducted in Polar Rovers. While aboard the mobile hotel, guests can take in the landscape from a viewing lounge or viewing platforms (six days, beginning at $7,895 per person based on double occupancy).

The Arctic Watch trip takes participants above the Canadian Arctic to the Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge, located close to an important beluga whale migration area at Somerset Island in Nunavut. Hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing for Arctic char, rafting on the Cunningham River and tours on ATVs and in a Mercedes Unimog are all part of the adventure, with the chance to spot muskox, polar bear, ring seals, foxes and multiple bird species (eight days, beginning at $6,295 per person based on double occupancy). The fourth of the new trips is Discover Greenland, with lodging in eight safari-style tents at Base Camp Greenland located along Sermilik Fjord. Oceangoing icebergs, the history museum at Tasiilaq, cultural encounters with native Inuit, guided sea kayaking, zodiac tours and hiking are included in the itinerary. Along the way, there’s a chance of seeing whales and Arctic foxes (nine days, beginning at $9,995 per person based on double occupancy).
