JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort, recipient of last year’s Dubai Green Tourism Award, is spreading the word when it comes to environmental awareness. The resort recently presented a workshop for members of the hospitality industry to share strategies and solutions for sustainable tourism.

During the workshop, JA Jebel Ali management unveiled the resort’s new aquaponics system: a method for growing plants by fertilizing them with waste water from fish. Aquaponic gardening is a productive way to grow organic vegetables, greens, herbs and fruit, while providing the added benefits of fresh fish as a safe and healthy source of protein. On average, aquaponic gardens are four to six times more productive, and require 90 percent less water, than conventional gardens.

“I’m proud to be called an eco-friendly destination, and I strongly encourage the whole team to do all they can to aid our cause,” said Fredrik Reinisch, general manager, JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort. “This training was another step in the right direction and sets an excellent example of different organizations working together for the greater good.”
