Delta Air Lines started testing a service allowing customers to video chat with a customer service agent. The test takes place at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, comprising five interactive digital screens positioned at the airport’s Delta Sky Assist area, which customers can use to speak with Delta staff.

“More and more people are choosing video chat to connect in their everyday lives, so we wanted to bring that channel to Delta customers,” said Charisse Evans, vice president of reservations sales and customer care, Delta. “We have the best specialists in the business — and now, they’ll be able to deliver customer solutions in an even more personal, face-to-face way.”

The video chat includes a text option, added following feedback from the airline’s disabilities advisory board.

Delta is upping the ante on its technology lately having recently allowed eligible customers to enter Delta’s Sky Club and board using fingerprints. The airline also implemented a biometric self-service bag drop at Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport, added a luggage tracking service to its mobile app and implemented a new system of boarding lines in Atlanta (ATL).
