Slated to debut in May 2025, V&A East Storehouse will mark one of London’s newest spaces for visitors to immerse in more than half a million works across every creative discipline. Spanning four levels, this purpose-built public space takes over a section of the former London 2012 Olympics Media Centre in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
In addition to its 250,000 objects, 350,000 library books and nearly 1,000 archives, a recently acquired David Bowie collection joins this massive reserve, set to open Sept. 13 in the new David Bowie Centre, located within the storehouse. This archive will feature about 80,000 items across Bowie’s six decades.
The Davie Bowie Centre will be split into three separate zones, complete with a mix of small, curated displays and audio-visual installations. Quieter study areas will also be featured, allowing visitors to delve further into all aspects of the archive on their own. Expect Bowie’s iconic costume, musical instruments, make-up charts, state models, Oblique Strategies card decks, personal notes, writings, lyrics and music, sketches, designs, and more.
Displays also explore Bowie’s influence on creatives like Lana de Rey, Lil Nas X and Issey Miyake.
The David Bowie Archive is made possible thanks to the David Bowie Estate and donations from Blavatnik Family Foundation and Warner Music Group.
