With French Country Waterways, you can settle aboard a luxuriously outfitted barge and explore France via decadent food, glorious wines and magnificent scenery. Four barges — eight- or 12-passenger in size — and five French countryside itineraries provide a choice of exploring in Alsace-Lorraine, Central Burgundy, the Côte d’Or, the Champagne region or the Upper Loire Valley. Each trip lasts six nights, with daily land excursions to explore the villages and towns located along the canal. Highlights include onboard meals, prepared by chefs trained in French classics and focusing on fresh, local ingredients gathered at markets and from artisan food producers along the way. Breakfasts feature freshly baked breads, while multi-course candlelit dinners conclude with delectable local cheeses and sweets.

More than two dozen wines are on offer during the length of each cruise, many originating in Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards. Rounding out the selection are labels from small production, family-owned vineyards. All itineraries include at least one private tour and tasting at a vineyard located along the various routes, along with a meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant with chef and sommelier recommendations.
