Maybe you’re looking for a thrill, or just a unique way to explore Alcatraz Island. Either way, the island offers a Night Tour for the curious.
After the daytime tourists depart, Alcatraz Landing, or Pier 33, stays open for the last boat of the day. The Night Tour brings passengers along the same route as day tour passengers, including a cellhouse audio tour, but with the added touch of intrigue via a a private guide.
Along the tour, guides point out all the secret spots along the island used in attempted escape plans. Visit the otherwise unreachable prison structures other guests can’t see on foot alone or during the day.
The guided tour brings guests up a steep hill to the Cellhouse with pit stops and fun facts along the way. Once at the Cellhouse, guests can tour on their own with audio.
Other areas open to night tours that are restricted by day include Alcatraz hospital accommodations, solitary confinement cells and real-life stories from prisoners and correctional officers.
Specific locales of the Night Tour are revealed along the tour and not before, as to keep each excursion unique and intriguing. Book tickets early, as the exclusivity of the tour makes for a higher demand. Reservations are recommended 90 days in advance.
