According to the Global Business Travel Association’s semi-annual GBTA BTI Outlook – China, China is still expected to overtake the United States as the world’s top business travel market before the end of the decade, even with the country forecasted to experience slower economic growth in the coming year. The report showed total spending on Chinese-originated business travel grew an estimated 16.6 percent in 2014 to $261 billion. GBTA expects it will continue to increase 14.2 percent this year, down from its previous projection of 18 percent, and will grow another 12 percent in 2016, reaching $334 billion. At this rate, China is forecasted to surpass the United States in spending by 2017.
