The Sofitel New York is set to launch its second season of intimate talks with French authors. The Rendez-Vous Littéraires series — conducted solely in French — takes place at the hotel’s Gaby Brasserie Française, with the first event of the New Year scheduled for Feb. 7, 2017, at 6 p.m. French journalist Olivier Barrot, recognizable as a popular TV5 Monde personality, hosts the series. During 2017, featured authors will include Maryline Desbiolles, Alain Mabanckou and Raphaël Enthoven. The most recent publication from poet and author Desbiolles (April 18, 2017) is a thoughtful and thought-provoking study of French composer Maurice Jaubert, a frequent collaborator with well-known film directors including Jean Vigo and René Clair.
Parisian-educated Republic of Congo native Mabanckou (Feb. 7, 2017), who has garnered numerous awards for his writing, teaches at UCLA and the College de France. A novelist and important figure in Francophone literature, he is especially well known for his works exploring contemporary life in Africa and Africans living in France.
Enthoven (March 7, 2017), a French philosopher and instructor, is co-author (with his father, Jean-Paul Enthoven) of an acclaimed Proust dictionary, and is also well known for his television and radio programs.
