A country music concert is not my usual scene. But after my girlfriend, Brena, unexpectedly got free tickets from a friend to see Zach Bryan’s Quittin’ Time Tour on Wednesday, she asked me to go with her, as she enjoys his music. It was a damp day in Philadelphia as we headed to Lincoln Financial Field, but luckily the rain held off during the actual concert (unlike his show the night before, which was delayed due to thunderstorms).
I hadn’t listened to Zach Bryan much before, but Brena has played me his songs a few times, so I had a baseline familiarity with his vibe. I don’t usually like going to concerts where I don’t know the artist well, but in this case I actually had a really good time. Zach Bryan put on a great show, and I can see why so many people like his music. There were so many catchy songs, and I think I may start listening to him more now that I’ve seen him.
The one drawback was the girls directly behind us were screaming along to every word… and when I say screaming, I mean screaming … though that’s probably my karma for the way I undoubtedly acted at my Eras Tour dates.
The night felt really special, as Bryan brought out two special musical guests: The Lumineers and Bruce Springsteen! The crowd went wild for both, but especially Bruce. Brena loves Bruce Springsteen, so she was absolutely overjoyed and immediately started crying. They performed Springsteen’s “Atlantic City” and a song they have together.
It’s quite impressive that after only five years of releasing music, Bryan was able to sell out Lincoln Financial Field two nights in a row. While he’s not exactly my musical cup of tea (I am not a country music type of girl), everyone in the crowd was having a great time, and he put on an entertaining show. I understand his wide appeal better now and am definitely glad I went.
