This week the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States were hit by Winter Storm Janus. All major cities along the I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C., up through Boston received record amounts of snow. In Philadelphia 13.5 inches fell, shattering the previous record for that date of 3.4 inches in 1917. More than 7,000 flights were cancelled or delayed since Tuesday, and Amtrak operated on an altered schedule. In most areas the snow stopped early Wednesday morning. With temperatures in the single digits and high winds in some areas, travel may still be affected. Some of the Global Traveler staff experienced commutes to and from the office on Tuesday and Wednesday lasting more than double the time it normally takes. My normal 10-minute commute took over 30 minutes – and I considered myself lucky!
