Last weekend I ventured to our nation’s capital for a springtime break with my boyfriend. We headed to the city’s newest district, the Wharf, opened in October 2017 and boasting hotels, eateries, shops and much more in a picturesque, water-side setting.

Arriving Friday evening around 10 p.m., we were eager to check in to our accommodations at InterContinental Washington, D.C. – The Wharf. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered great views, and below the Wharf buzzed despite the rain. It would only get more crowded as the weekend progressed and the weather warmed.

I awoke early Saturday to secure tickets to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and, admittedly, to catch the Royal Wedding. What’s wonderful about the Wharf is it is a destination of its own, but it’s also conveniently located — we walked everywhere.

Saturday started with brunch at Station 4 (I recommend the burrito!) before the National Museum of American History and the Holocaust Museum. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at our hotel’s Kith/Kin and savored the views at Whiskey Charlie on top of the Wharf’s Canopy by Hilton.

Sunday also started with brunch (of course!) at Scarlet Oak before an afternoon baseball game at Nationals Stadium. The highlight at the ballgame, for me, was the fourth-inning race of the Presidents. Abraham Lincoln won the battle that day.

We drove home following the game, discussing what a wonderful weekend we enjoyed in the nation’s capital, already brainstorming what we’d like to do on our next visit.
