Trying Out Jacksonville’s Newest Restaurant

by Aoife O'Riordan

Aug 6, 2025

A few weeks ago, my sister and I decided to have dinner at The Electric Dough Pizza Co., a recently opened pizza and gelato eatery in San Marco in Jacksonville, Florida. The restaurant took over the space of the old San Marco Theater, a place I remember going to as a child. When the theater closed, I feared the building would sit empty for a long time.

Fortunately, the owners behind two other Jacksonville restaurants took on the project to revive the space, introduce a pizzeria to the area and adorn the space with nods to the building’s past as a theater.

My cousin, currently on summer break from college, also got a job there for the summer, so we turned to her when we got there for her recommendations. This pizza place is not your hole-in-the-wall pizzeria; rather, it offers elevated takes on classics. All pizzas served are rectangles and a sort of mesh between deep-dish and regular crust.

We opted for the Detroit Baller, a pizza topped with sliced meatballs, Calabrian chili aioli (absolutely delicious), Ed’s red sauce drizzle, shaved Parmesan and cacio e pepe sauce. My cousin also raved about the Classic Caprese and The Might Quinn (roasted local mushrooms, Fontina, porcini-truffle aioli, cacio e pepe sauce and chives). There’s also the option to build your own pizza if none of the creations catch your eye.food

We also both got The Azalea cocktail, one of the restaurant’s craft cocktails concocted with St. Augustin vodka, Pama pomegranate, pineapple juice, hibiscus and lemon. Light and refreshing, it was the perfect accompaniment to a hearty pizza. My cousin also made sure to get us the spinach and artichoke fonduta as an appetizer, complete with bread crisps.drink

While the prices are a bit on the higher end for what many might be willing to fork out for pizza, it’s worth it for the trip and experience. On one of the walls, which the owners stripped to expose the original brick, black-and-white films are projected to remind diners of where the building came from.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
