Last week, I had the opportunity to visit JFK International Airport for a tour of the newly opened Airspace Lounge. Located between gates 24 and 25 in Terminal 5, it provides a relaxing atmosphere away from the main bustle of the airport. 

T5, a main hub for JetBlue, is a gorgeous space in itself. Less than 10 years old, it is brightly lit with plenty of seating. Those who want a little more privacy can visit the Airspace Lounge for a nominal fee of $25, which includes a $10 credit for items from their menu or bar. It is open to the public and is complimentary for those who qualify based on flight plans or cardholder status.  

The lounge includes some of the expected amenities normally provided in upscale lounges: a bathroom with shower, a business center and free coffee and soft drinks. We sampled plates of canapés. All were delicious, and I particularly enjoyed the cucumber, egg and caviar. What impressed me the most about the space was the attention to detail: fresh flowers, the in-mirror TV in the bathroom with flight information, and, especially, the presence of Guinness on draft. This offering was chosen so Aer Lingus passengers on their way to Ireland, who can receive free access, could stop in for a pint of the famous Irish Stout.

With two more locations in Cleveland and Baltimore, and more planned, Airspace is a great airport amenity to check out.
