This past week I finally got around to dealing with the digital images I’ve taken over the past 12 months or so. I am guilty of going out and buying new memory cards rather than editing and saving the images from the old ones and then reusing them after erasing them. Is my life really that hectic? Do I really take that many photos? No, I’m just really that good at procrastinating on a project that involves technology with which I am neither very comfortable nor adept. I’ve certainly looked at most of the photos before, but I haven’t taken the time to fully edit them, organize them into digital folders or albums, add captions or print any of them. I’ve wanted to publish some on Facebook to share with friends and family, but I decided to wait until my daughter could lead me by the hand through the whole process. I discovered there are definitely pluses and minuses to delaying sorting through a year’s worth of pictures: It’s much easier to delete images of marginal quality or 10 views of the same landscape, but it’s also much harder to recall names of people and structures in them (another good reason to take notes, keep a journal and save maps and brochures from your travels!). The repetition of using my editing software has me feeling more confident in dealing with the process now, but I still feel as if the whole task is rather cumbersome (and not just due to the volume of pictures).
